SerumWhat about scars?

What about scars?

Scars often reflect childhood silliness or not-so-tender moments of our lives. Often subject to stigmatization and genuine concern, scars have been at the heart of “miracle” products’ marketing.  But what about their credibility? Is it possible to make a scar disappear?

Let’s take a tour!

What is a scar?

The skin is our most important organ and it plays a key role in the protection of the body against external attacks. During superficial aggressions of the epidermis, wounds heal spontaneously without forming a scar.

However, in the case of deeper attacks affecting the dermis, a scar appears.

Thus, the healing process is a physiological phenomenon of tissue repair based on the restoration of the dermal-epidermal continuity and leading to the appearance of a “mark”.

Are there various types of scars?

It should be noted that scars are rarely problematic. Nevertheless, it is possible that the healing process gives rise to unsightly marks known as “pathological” marks that require special care.

We distinguish:

– A hypertrophic scar characterized by an overproduction of connective tissue leading to

a delimited relief’s appearance

– An atrophic scar appears when there is a lack of connective tissue

– Invasive scars following the proliferation of connective tissue next to the wound

Delayed healing?

In some cases, it is possible to experience a delay in healing. This can be explained by various causes such as ageing, ethnicity or poor asepsis. Delayed healing can also have a vascular or a neurological origin.

How can a scar be treated?

Diverse methods already exist.  First of all, we often advise to optimize the spontaneous healing of a scar.

For light scars, skin care treatment is possible. We advise you take care of your skin and not to dry it out. Start by using a gentle soap-free. We often advise the use of bars for intolerant skins. Combine this with a healing serum or cream containing “cell-stimulation ingredients” to help increase the production of collagen.

Added to that, please note that it is essential to protect your scar from UV rays with an adapted sun protection and to avoid continuous sun exposure.Other specific treatments such as ultrasound-based techniques, laser, scar operations or cryotherapy are possible. Ask your doctor for advice!

Wound healing with aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy is an interesting alternative.

Indeed, certain essential oils contain natural antiseptics; thyme and rosemary, for example,

contain phenols with antiseptic properties. The essential oil of lavender is a cellular stimulant thanks to the presence of linalool.

Do not forget that these essential oils are allergenic and cannot be used

on everyone. Ask your doctor and/or pharmacist for advice!

Our advice

– Avoid any friction

– Moisturize your skin

– Wear cotton clothes, avoid wearing synthetic ones

– Avoid subjecting the scar to high/low temperatures or to dryness

– Take care of your skin.

Please note that there is no miracle product for healing. Please ask your doctor and/or pharmacist for advice.
